Tamara with miniature

Miss Drew was waiting in the schoolroom, with the table laid for lunch, to hear their adventures. First Archibald put Joey safely in the doll's-house, where he curled up in the best bed. The children sat down around the table, eating their lunch and talking excitedly at the same time, to tell Miss Drew about their thrilling morning. As a rule, Miss Drew never allowed herself to show the slightest agitation, even by the most extraordinary exploits of her charges. However, this time, she turned quite pale when she heard about Tamara, poking her umbrella into the lions' cage. At this point in the story, Archibald suddenly remembered something. Putting down his knife and fork, he said, "Excuse me a minute," and ran out of the schoolroom. He did not answer Miss Drew's inquiries as to where he was going, or what was the matter. They heard the front door bang. "Just keep on eating girls," said Miss Drew calmly, "I am sure he will be back in a minute. As we are eating cold lamb and salad, there is no chance of his food becoming spoiled!"

She was right, in less than five minutes, Victoria timed it on the schoolroom clock, Archibald appeared back in the schoolroom. He clutched a small box in his hand. He aplogized and explained to Miss Drew, "Tamara saved Joey's life, he is one of my dedarest posessions, and this is the other one. I wish to give it to Tamara." He handed her a little heart-shaped box. Tamara carefully opened it, insided lying on white satin was a miniature on a gold chain of a very pretty lady, with a green ribbon in her fair hair. "that is a painting of my Mama," said Archibald, "when Tamara wears it, it will remind her of us." "As if I need reminding," said Tamara, who felt overwhelmed, as she slipped the gold chain over her head.
